Dr. Jonathan Orr's Resumé

Dr Orr had an Army Scholarship but left school a year early aged 17 taking an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, specialising in Public Health. While at University he was commissioned into the Royal Engineers. At one time he was the youngest Captain in the British Regular Army. His final two years were spent on loan to be The Second in Command of the Sultan of Oman's Armed Forces Engineers where it was taken for granted that he would work in Arabic. Experience included command of tanks with bridges, demolition guns and construction equipment workshops. During his short career he saw action in Northern Ireland and The Middle East. He was in charge of The Royal Engineer and then the Sultanate Free-Fall Parachute teams. He had two postings as a Training Officer. He first programmed computers in 1970, owned his first PC in 1983 and has been using a desktop PC in first-world primary care since 1986.

Medicine

Five years training started at The London Hospital in 1979. Then followed rotations in General Medicine [hearts and chests], General Surgery [& vascular], Accident and Emergency [at Guy's Hospital], Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Care of the Elderly, Paediatrics & Local Child Health. He finished General Practice training by looking after the poor in the East End of London for a year. He has been a keen advocate of medical training: sitting on the Clinical Curriculum Committee at The London, on The North East London Faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners, was secretary to the East Suffolk GP Forum and then a leading member of the Pharmaceutical Committee for the Primary Care Group. For fourteen years prior to coming to Australia he was a full-time General Practitioner principal in the county town at Ipswich, Suffolk, England, serving a mixed rural/town/commuter population. The final four years were as senior partner/lead GP in the practice. To prove mental agility in 1995 he took and passed first time the Membership examination of The Royal College of General Practitioners, being nearly the oldest candidate in what is usually considered an academic and practical exam for young doctors fresh out of training. It equates almost exactly to the Royal Australian College Fellowship exam. Three years later he gained the Diploma in Occupational Medicine from The Royal College of Physicians. In 1997 he obtained Trainer qualifications from the London City and Guilds organisation. The following year he obtained more certification and is qualified to assess Trainers themselves.

Australia.

His brother is an Australian citizen and works in Brisbane. Dr Orr's own family commitments in England changed so as a challenge in February 2002 he commenced work in rural Queensland, initially spending six months at Beerwah Surgery under Dr Ron Bond. A vacancy arose for a suitably experienced single handed GP in Woodford just thirty kilometres away, and Dr Orr was transferred there. Dr Orr's English qualifications were immediately recognised by The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners who awarded him Fellowship (FRACGP). Vocational Registration followed as did Specialist Qualification from the Health Board Recently he was recommended, trained for and has been appointed by the RACGP as an examiner for the Fellowship exam itself. He has had three small articles published in the Australian GP magazine: Medical Observer "GP Tips". overall he is very well qualified, thoroughly experienced, and is a keen trainer wanting to pass on his knowledge to others and remains `young for his years'.

In January 2005, he moved to this Practice and is one of the full time GP's. He is a keen Army Reservist, and in 2007, took a three month sabbatical and was the lone Australian doctor for the Army Battle Group in Southern Iraq. His final patrol was hit by three roadside bombs amd one liong distance Katorshka rocket. As he says: "Life is never too dull....."

In a busy year during the remains of his weekends he is to be found coaching adventurous young Australians in free-fall parachuting at Toogoolawah, but on a quiet afternoon is a keen member of The Glasshouse Country Lawn Bowls Club and is keen member of the Light Horse Wombye Troop.
